PRESIDENT’S CORNER
Well here it is, the merry month of May! We hope that all of you who purchased plants in our Plant Sale are delighted with your plants. We should shortly be able to announce how much the sales have generated for the club and for our charitable donations later this year. We have a busy month ahead of us with key decisions to make about how we will distribute our charitable collections. We have provisionally planned to make two donations this year, one in July and one towards the end of the year.
Last month the Board agreed that we should recommend four charities. The four selected are: Children’s Garden, Free Medical Clinic, Samaritan’s Well and the Sheperd’s Center. Inside this newsletter we have provided contact information so that you can obtain an insight into the workings and purpose of each organization. Please take the time to check them out. There are so many places we could invest our hard earned money so it will really help if we make a collective and informed decision. If you believe we should consider any additional charities please let one of us know and provide some background information and contact details.
At our May Coffee we will again announce the selected charities and at our May Luncheon we will ask all present to vote and select which we plan to support this year. If you wish to participate in the voting process but are unable to make the luncheon please contact either Jan or Sonya.
Last month we agreed upon our budget for 2008. It provides all the relevant information and clearly demonstrates how your membership fees are invested and spent. It also indicates how much we are able to do with the goodwill and hard work from all our volunteers across the Board, Standing Committees and Special Interest Groups. I am sure you will join us in thanking them for all their hard work on our behalf. If you would like to receive a copy of the proposed 2008 budget please let one of us know.
